A packaging company broke ground recently on an 85,000 square-foot building off Interstate 4.
Versatile Packagers, a contract packaging, warehousing and shipping firm, hopes to open by early February on 4.2 acres in the I-4 Business Center at Park Road, according to Canco General Contractors Inc. of Plant City. Versatile is an 18-year-old company that has grown from 20,000 square feet of space to 120,000 square feet of leased space today. The company will continue to lease space in Tampa.
The company will have 45 to 50 employees, most of those coming from the company's Tampa operation, with new hires anticipated as volume grows.
The architect is Fred Russell of St. Petersburg and the civil engineer firm on the project is Landmark Engineering of Tampa.
Those taking part in the June 29 groundbreaking ceremony included Rick Shave and Bob Vande Weghe, partners and vice presidents of Versatile Packagers; Everett Morrow, vice president of Landmark Engineering; John Prahl, owner of Canco Contractors; City Manager Greg Horwedel, Mayor Dan Raulerson and Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce President Marion Smith.
