The University of South Florida’s transportation center was awarded a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The center is one of 22 awarded a total of $77 million in grants to advance research and education that address transportation challenges, the DOT said in a statement.
Grant recipients must match the grants with funds from non-federal sources.
University transportation centers’ research will involve shared rail corridors, bridge inspection methods and reducing traffic accidents.
USF’s center is a consortium that includes Florida International University , North Dakota State University at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
